Where to buy a car while stationed in Iwakuni

There are a few options for buying cars near Iwakuni.

*I am not related to any of the individuals below but have met each of them (excluding dealers) and worked with each in different situations. I have had enough contact to have an opinion.

Jim Ford (he has several lots around Iwakuni)

Jim is probably the most trustworthy dealer in Iwakuni. He sells cars at great prices and can get you the kind of car you want most of the time. He is not making a living from his car sales so you get better prices. He is busy and you have to be patient but he is the best dealer, in my opinion. Jim has treated many people very well, just ask around.

*You can contact Jim Ford after 1700 during the week or during the day on the weekend at 090-3747-7601 (or 011-81-90-3747-7601). Be sure to leave a message if your call goes to voice mail.

Dealers Off Base

Japanese are generally very honest people. You can find great cars off base and this may be the next best option after Jim Ford. www.goo-net.com can help you find out how much cars should go for. Please see comment by Trinity - click on comment link at the end of this post.

Vertex is a great place to go if you are looking for a fast car. http://www.vertex-in.com/index.htm

Yamaguchi Car sells inexpensive but good cars http://y-car.org/index.html

Honda just past Yellow hat has plenty of cars from the 3k - 5K range and have a staff of mechanics that will take care of you.

Caesar's on RT15 across from Big Motor. He only deals with 4.0 auction grade cars and above.

For Sale by Owner

Another good way to buy a car in Iwakuni. Get is checked out by the shop on base before you buy, it will cost around $50. Just be wise.

I can't recommend these guys with full confidence, but I would go here before Car World. Prices may be higher than Jim Ford and For Sale by Owner. Just have the car checked out before you buy.

Personally, not my favorite place in Iwakuni. Again, their prices may be higher than Jim Ford or For Sale by Owner. This is owned by the wife of the Deputy Station Inspector (David Naseer) - this fact makes me uncomfortable. Who do you go to if you have a complaint about the Deputy Station Inspector's business? What if you get a lemon, who do you go to? The Station Inspector's office?? It might be a difficult situation on many levels. Several of my friends have had a bad experience at Car World, so I personally believe there may be better options. Update: Jim Ford can do your title transfers for $40 cheaper. Also, please do not turn you car into Car World if you can't sell it. Have a friend sell your car for you or talk to Jim Ford.

Pricing

If you are only here for two years don't pay over $3000 for a car or van. This low priced car can come with two years JCI (Type of additional insurance) and low miles. Insurance is cheap so it isn't much of a concern. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
